Outsmarting Simon is a four-piece rock band from New Brunswick, NJ. The band has been compared to others within the indie/punk community, ranging from the Appleseed Cast to Sunny Day Real Estate to Boy Sets Fire.
Originally formed in the freshmen dorms of Rutgers University in the spring of 2000, Outsmarting Simon came to be:
Gregory J Roehrich -- guitar, vocals Brian Maguire -- drums PJ Bond -- bass guitar, vocals Brian J Kelly -- guitar, vocals
In their two years together, Outsmarting Simon has played shows regularly, both locally and out of state. They’ve had the opportunity to play with some amazing bands such as Pop Unknown, Coheed and Cambria, Keepsake, Further Seems Forever, and Penfold. They’ve also shared the stage with some bigger names like Glassjaw, Good Charlotte, New Found Glory, and Midtown.
After the release of their self-titled EP in 2001, Outsmarting Simon embarked on their first road trip, spending a week touring the northeast, in support of the record. The band headed out twice more the following year. The two tours took them as far south as Florida, as far north as Maine, and as far west as Illinois.
After several successful tours, Outsmarting Simon took some time off the road to begin working on a new record. After four months, and many hours in the studio, the band’s first full length, Silent Sober and Sound, was released in December 2002 on Maroon Set Recordings. The band then left for a month-long tour of the east coast, in support of the new full length. Currently the band is back home playing frequent local shows and catching their breath before they head back out on the road.
